Quick Update
Posted by Kudzai on Sep 30, 2009 in Announcements • 3 commentsHi everyone. Just a quick note. I’ll be uploading the remainder of the lessons created before the site launch. Lesson 2 is now online, and lesson 1 will be up in a few days. Also, coming up is Lessons 7 which will be “Shona Pronouns.” This was recently requested via email by one of the listeners. Thanks for everyone keeping in touch via email and commenting. Its encouraging to hear the feedback and stories! Stay blessed.

Hi Kudzai - I just discovered your site - I am trying to learn a few words of Shona for a holiday in Zim. Your lessons are really easy to follow and you speak very clearly - which is perfect for a beginner. I would like to be able to say “please can you help me?” but I cannot find a word for please! Is it somewhere in one of the lessons? Thanks, and keep up your work - it will be a really good resource.
Thanks so much Chipiri! And that’s a very important question you’ve asked. In shona, you add “wo” to the end of a verb in order to say “please.” “Wo” means “Please,” but its not a word that stands alone. It’s a suffix, and adding it will make you sound very polite
For example: To say “help me” is “ndibatsirei” To say “please help me” is “ndibatsireiwo.”
Other examples:
“Go” - “enda” | “Please go” - “endawo”
“Tell me” - “ndiudze” | “please tell me” - “ndiudzewo”
“Speak English” - “taura ne Chirungu” | “please speak English” - “taurawo ne Chirungu”
Thanks, thank’s very helpful. Lot’s to practice!
